Our Story
We began our journey September 30, 2017 to organize an alumni chapter comprised of Southern University alumni/friends from Iberville, Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge parishes. Our initial meeting was attended by the following persons:

A glimpse of the roads we traveled, as we meticulously continued to work to reach charter status on December 19, 2019, are listed below:
February 3, 2018
A meeting was held at the West Baton Rouge Parish Library. The focus of the meeting was to develop timelines for necessary organizational tasks, and to agree upon a chapter name. The name agreed upon was The Tri Parish Alumni Chapter.
March 4, 2018
We met with the Alumni Federation Executive Director. At this meeting, we learned that our proposed chapter’s name had been recently approved for another chapter. After exploring names, it was agreed to rename the chapter- The Bayou Tri Parish Alumni Chapter.

March 21, 2018
The chapter application was submitted to the Alumni Federation Office with sixteen chartered members.

April 6, 2019
The chapter’s bylaws, membership fee and logo were finalized. Election to fill the positions of President, Recording Secretary, and Treasurer was completed.

August 24, 2019
A meeting was held at the West Baton Rouge Library. The purpose of the meeting was to plan a membership drive, after being notified by Alumni Federation Office that our chapter’s application had been approved.

October 5, 2019
A Meet and Greet was held with over forty persons joining the chapter.

October 24, 2019
Our first chapter meeting was held at the West Baton Rouge Library. The Nomination and Election Committee members were approved.
December 14, 2019
Our inaugural officers for the 2019-2021 years were installed and the chapter activate ceremony held.
