MENTORSHIP
Jags to Jaguars
Jags & Jaguars (J&J) Mentorship Program, an extension of the Bayou Tri-Parish Recruitment and Retention initiatives, facilitates meaningful connections between experienced alumni, recent graduates, and first year students from Iberville, West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee Parishes. J&J pairs Southern University Alumni and first year students for a year-long mentorship that focuses on personal and professional development, as well as career and network building. Through this initiative the Southern University Bayou Tri-Parish Alumni Chapter hopes to deepen connections within the Southern University Jaguar Nation, and to inspire a community of mentors dedicated to fostering growth and development in students matriculating at Southern University.
The goals of the Jags & Jaguars Mentorship Program are to:
Equip the mentee with skills and tools needed to make sound decisions;
Assist the mentee with establishing and accomplishing short and long-term goals, both personal and professional;
Improve the mentee’s leadership, teamwork, creative thinking, decision making, and interpersonal skills;
Explore and discuss with the mentee different majors and career paths;
Facilitate community building, character development and career advancement for both mentors and mentees.; and
